On February 12, 2025, the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation in collaboration with PSG Hospitals, Rotary Club, Rotaract Club Coimbatore, and Brookefields Mall, observed International Childhood Cancer Day. Embracing the theme “Inspiring Action,” the event honored the courage and resilience of children battling cancer.
The day began with a joyful outing to Brookefields Mall, where children delighted in a storytelling session at Crossword Bookstore and an immersive cinematic experience at PVR Cinemas. A special lunch at Shree Anandhas added to their excitement before they returned for the main event.
The formal session featured an insightful address by Dr. Shashi Ranjani, Consultant Pediatric Oncologist, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in supporting young warriors. Distinguished guests, including Rotarian Varadarajan, President, Rotary Club Coimbatore Metropolis, Rtn. Duraisamy Secretary, Rotary Club, Ms. Dhanalakshmi Govindarajan Chairperson, Cheshire Homes India, and Dr. T. Balaji Managing Trustee, CCF Director, PSG Institute of Oncology, graced the occasion alongside medical and non-medical staff.
A highlight of the event was an enchanting magic show by renowned mentalist Shahul Breaker, spreading joy among the children. The Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Crystals further brightened the day with their “Make a Wish” initiative, fulfilling children’s heartfelt wishes by gifting bicycles, teddy bears, and painting kits, each accompanied by a personalized motivational card.
Under the theme “Illuminate the Invisible,” the Rotaract Club emphasized the need to raise awareness about childhood cancer, often overlooked due to its rarity, leading to delays in diagnosis and support.
This heartwarming event was a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives, bringing hope, joy, and encouragement to young warriors bravely facing cancer.
